The Rush to Change Your Neighbourhood.

November 11, 2021 Janney Claire Alexi

Your opinions matter but they must be heard to be effective.

We frequently check the City of Victoria online calendar to see what is planned for the coming week. In checking this week, we find that there is a continuous series of events scheduled that could have a lasting effect upon how your neighbourhood will be developed over the next few , and greater, years. It almost seems as if the Council and Planning Department are engaging in a continuous campaign to change the appearance of our neighbourhoods while dangling enticements of more public spaces and green spaces to compensate for the loss of existing lower cost rental spaces in traditional housing.

This coming Saturday, November 13th, there are two "Walkshops" scheduled for Fernwood.

You can register for them at LINK or LINK.

When you attend, you will hear about green spaces and public improvements. But these come with a price. The traditional housing along Fernwood towards Vining and along Gladstone towards Stanley Street would not be saved but would rather be subject to the "Small Urban Village" design changes envisioned in the Official Community Plan.

Those areas of Fernwood illustrated in yellow, below, would be subject to rapid redevelopment as is happening in other traditional residential neighbourhoods.

Please go the the webpage ENGAGE and get involved.

Attend the scheduled meeting for Fernwood, North Park, and Quadra-Hillside.

The City will change. But this is fast and risky. On November 20th, there are "Walkshops" scheduled for Hillside Quadra. On November 27th, there are "Walkshops" for North Park.

Please register and attend.
